This pastel portrait of Arthur was based on sketches for an art class. A colored drawing was to be the final part of this project. He was sleeping on a pillow and I sketched him in sections because he kept waking up and moving.

I decided that it would be fun to make it comical with his foot scratching his head. The tail is cut out as well. The collar covers the seam. His ears were very long and eyes droopy and cherry-eyed and which are typical features of basset hounds. I thought that it would be cute to have his nose and ears rest over the matte.

The other pastel portrait of Arthur was based on a photograph that I took of him. I like blending the colors for a softer touch in the portrait. His ears were long and silky and I wanted to express that.
